Second day of the workshop was about constructing installation. The groups used forms and shapes to share their stories and create a shared understanding about the themes and actions related  to youth unemployment.

My Dream World in Namibia PDC

My Dream World run the first workshop around developing services for unemplyed youth. Participants were from Namibia: Rlabs, Polytecnic of Namibia and South Africa: CPUT and Botswana: University of Botswana. The groups were using the methods of Priscilla Chueng-Nainby called embidied Interaction. The was full of good discussions, creating a personas and working with storytelling.

Workshops at Open Design Week

My Dream World workshops started as a part of Open Design Week Cape Town and WDC14 official program. CPUT surface design students and San Youth from Kimberley SASI have been working together using several tools: power tree, narrative probes, Hero's journey, statement T- shirt and empowering garnment. Tomorrow they will create a Service that will help in reaching there career goal. Flash mob will be used to engage the audience and stakeholders thinking about the challanges that the Youth is facing.

My Dream World in Cape Town 2014

My Dream World -project will be organizing workshops, exhibition and a round table discussion at Open Design week in Cape Town. 

The My Dream World workshop will engage with the local youth community and aims to establish new participatory and empowering service design tools to be used by the target audience.
The designed tools will enable youths to handle and find solutions that support their career path and coping with difficult employment and educational situation. Various methods and techniques will be explored including photograph, video and narrative probes, t-shirt printing workshop and developing empowering garments as part of the Hero’s Journey.

My Dream World - nuorten unelmia muotoilemassa

 

My Dream World – nuorten unelmia muotoilemassanäyttelyssä pääosaan nousevat namibialaisten ja etelä-afrikkalaisten nuorten toiveet ja unelmat. Näyttely kertoo suomalaisten taiteilijoiden ja muotoilijoiden palvelumuotoilu –hankkeesta afrikkalaisten kansalaisjärjestöjen Ombetja Yehingan ja SASIn kanssa.Ombetja Yehinga  (OYO) –järjestö tekee terveysvalistusta tanssin ja draaman keinoin. SouthAfrican San Institute (SASI) puolestaan pyrkii edistämään san–kansojen asemaa eteläisessä Afrikassa.College of the Arts (COTA) on namibialainen taideoppilaitos.

 

Työpajojen sarja antoi joukolle afrikkalaisia nuoria mahdollisuuden vuoropuheluun itselleen ja yhteisölleentärkeistä teemoista. Palvelumuotoilun, vuoropuhelun ja itseilmaisun välineinä toimivat taiteen ja muotoilun keinot. Näyttely esittelee työpajojen tuloksina syntyneitä palvelukonsepteja, nuorten ajatuksia visualisoivia tekstiileitä sekä ”Sankarin matkan” –nuorten urapolkuja ja sen tiellä olevia haasteita visualisoivan ja konkretisoivan videoteoksen.

 

Työttömien nuorten esiin nostamia haasteita olivat lukiosta valmistuminen, jatko-opiskelupaikan saamisentyöllistymisen ehtona sekä sanallinen ja fyysinen hyväksikäyttöNuorten unelmia olivat työn ja ammatin saaminen sekä yhteisön auttaminen ja tukeminen. San–nuoria puolestaan kosketti san–kansojen juurettomuus ja pakkosiirrot, työttömyys ja sen aiheuttama köyhyys ja alkoholismi. Heidän unelmissaan korostuivat kielen ja kulttuurin säilyminen ja omille juurilleen pääsy.

 

Näyttely etenee aikajanalla, jonka varrelle sijoittuvat nuorten kanssa toteutetut työpajat tuloksineen.
